# Rolegend > Rolegend is a solo Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition roleplaying game you play by writing, at https://www.rolegend.com. Keystone Engine enforces the rules. ROWAN narrates the world. Published by Nightshift Software. ## What it is You write what your character does, in plain English. Two systems answer: - **Keystone Engine** enforces the rules. It rolls every die, applies your modifiers, and tracks hit points, inventory, conditions, spell slots, rests and experience. The language model never touches the dice. - **ROWAN** (Responsive Open-World Adventure Narrator) narrates the world. It is handed the result and writes what happens, plays every character you meet, and runs the world. Play is asynchronous and by post. There is no live table, no scheduling, and no session that expires. A campaign waits for you. ## Who it is for Someone who wants to play Dungeons and Dragons but cannot get four adults in a room on the same evening, or who has fifteen minutes rather than four hours. No rules knowledge is needed to start; ready-made characters are provided. It is 18 and over, by an attestation the server enforces on every sign-in request. ## Pages - [/](https://www.rolegend.com/) - Rolegend - what it is, how it works, and the opening of a campaign - [/pricing](https://www.rolegend.com/pricing) - Plans, prices and what the free tier includes - [/faq](https://www.rolegend.com/faq) - Answers to the questions people actually ask before signing up - [/rules-coverage](https://www.rolegend.com/rules-coverage) - Every fifth edition rule the engine enforces, applies partly, or leaves to be narrated - [/content-policy](https://www.rolegend.com/content-policy) - What the Game Master will and will not narrate - [/legal](https://www.rolegend.com/legal) - Service schedule: the terms specific to this service - [/legal/sub-processors](https://www.rolegend.com/legal/sub-processors) - Every company that can receive what you write - [/legal/attribution](https://www.rolegend.com/legal/attribution) - SRD 5.1 licence attribution - [/blog](https://www.rolegend.com/blog) - Writing about AI Game Masters, solo play, and fifth edition rules - [/compare](https://www.rolegend.com/compare) - How this compares with the other AI Game Masters, every claim about them sourced and dated ## Pricing - **Free** - free - **Rolegend** - $15 per month The free tier is a real campaign rather than a time-limited trial. A man called the Cantor is reading names off a notched stick on the imperial road, and everything he reads gets up and walks. He needs nine. He has six. A solo tabletop roleplaying game you play by writing. You say what your character does, and an AI Game Master narrates the world, plays everyone in it, and calls for the rolls. It uses the Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition rules. It is played at your own pace. Nothing expires, nothing is scheduled, and a session can be one turn or fifty. ### Do I need to know D&D to play? No. You can pick a ready-made character and start; the GM handles the rules, tells you when a roll is needed, and explains what a result means as it goes. If you do know the rules, nothing is hidden from you - every roll shows its formula and its result. ### Can I play with friends? Not yet. Rolegend is solo: one player, one Game Master. Shared campaigns are not part of it today. ### Are the dice real, or does the AI just decide? Real, and this is deliberate. Every roll is made by the server before the narration is written, so the Game Master finds out what you rolled at the same time you do. It cannot round a 3 up to a 17 because the story would be better. Each roll shows its formula and its total, so you can check the arithmetic yourself. ### Does it remember what happened last session? Yes. Your character sheet, inventory, where you are, what you have done and the state of the world are all stored as facts rather than left to the model to recall, so they survive any gap between sessions. ### The GM wrote something I do not want in my game. What now? Take the turn back. Rewind removes a GM response and the action that caused it, so the scene never happened, and you can write something else. You can also set lines and veils for a campaign: things the Game Master must never bring up, or must keep off the page. Those are sent with every turn rather than being a one-off request. ### What does it cost? Rolegend is $15 a month. There is no card required to start, and no trial countdown. ### What do I get for free? The opening act of one campaign, played properly - the same Game Master, the same rules, the same dice. Not a demo. It does not expire. Take three weeks over it if you like. ### What happens when the free part ends? The story reaches the end of its opening act and stops there. You are asked whether you want to carry on. Nothing is deleted and nothing is locked. What you played stays readable, and you can still export it. ### If I subscribe later, do I lose my progress? No. Subscribing picks up exactly where you stopped - the same character, the same choices, the same world state, in the same run. It does not start you over. ### How do I cancel? In Settings, under Billing. It goes through the same portal that handles your card, and it takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for. Cancelling does not delete anything. Your campaigns stay where they are. ### My payment failed. Have I lost access? No. A failed renewal does not cut you off. Your card is retried over the following days, and play carries on in the meantime. If the retries do not succeed the subscription ends and the account returns to the free tier - and even then nothing is deleted. ### Is "unlimited play" really unlimited? There is no turn counter and no cut-off. Under sustained heavy use the Game Master may switch to a faster model to keep it that way, rather than stopping you. Image generation is the one thing that is counted: 50 a month. ### Is what I write used to train an AI? No. What you write is sent to a model provider so the Game Master can reply, and their commercial terms exclude that traffic from training by default. It is not used to train anything by us either. ### Can I get my campaigns out? Yes, at any time and on any plan, including the free one. Settings has an export that gives you your account and your transcripts in full. ### How do I delete my account? Settings, under Danger zone. It removes the account and everything belonging to it. ### Do you use tracking cookies? Only if you say yes. The analytics code is not even downloaded unless you accept it, so declining costs you nothing and leaves nothing to switch off. The rest is the machinery of staying signed in and remembering settings you chose yourself. ### How do I sign in if I do not have a password? There are no passwords. You enter your email address and we send you a link that signs you in. The link is single use and expires. ### Is there an age limit? Yes - you must be 18 or over. The Game Master writes adult fiction on request, within the content policy, which is why. ### Something broke mid-turn. Did I lose the turn? Almost certainly not. A turn that fails can be retried from the thread, and a turn interrupted while waiting on a dice roll can be picked up where it stopped. If a turn is genuinely lost, write to us and we will sort it out.
