Rolegend and AI Realm

AI Realm is the quickest way to be playing and the most editable game in the category - you can change anything, including your own stats. On Rolegend the numbers are not yours to edit, and that is the entire point.

What AI Realm is

AI Realm is a browser-based AI Game Master, installable as a phone app, built around a chat window with a structured Notes system holding the campaign. It offers a choice of narration models, built-in portraits and scene art, text to speech, and small-group multiplayer. Its rules content is drawn from the 2014 fifth edition SRD.

What we could verify

• It describes itself as a platform for "D&D 5e inspired adventures" built on the foundation of D&D 5e SRD (2014) content, and carries its own disclaimer of affiliation with the game and its publisher on the same page. (source, checked 2026-07-31)
• The homepage advertises eight storytelling AI models and three custom image generators, with campaign tracking handled automatically. (source, checked 2026-07-31)
• Multiplayer exists but is bounded: the Player's Guide says you and up to three friends can play together depending on your plan, and that multiplayer sessions use the default fantasy setting of Al'Mundi rather than a world you choose. (source, checked 2026-07-31)
• Solo play is not limited to fantasy. The world settings are the built-in Al'Mundi, a Cyberpunk Mystery branch with ten settings, or a custom world you describe in free text and can have the AI expand. (source, checked 2026-07-31)

What AI Realm does better

• Playing with other people. Up to three friends can join a campaign. Rolegend is solo only and has no multiplayer on the roadmap.
• Choice of narrator. Eight storytelling models, switchable mid-campaign, so you can pick the voice you like. Rolegend picks the model for you and gives you no say in it.
• Being heard. Text to speech narration with custom voices for the Game Master and individual characters. Rolegend has no audio at all.
• Worlds beyond fifth-edition fantasy. Cyberpunk settings, or any world you can describe in a paragraph. Rolegend runs one ruleset in one genre.
• Authorial control. You can edit the Game Master's replies, regenerate them, and set any stat by hand. Rolegend will not let you rewrite what the engine wrote, which is a feature for some readers and a wall for others.
• Art in the flow of play. Character portraits at creation and scene snapshots on demand. On Rolegend images are user-initiated from an entity page and unavailable on the free plan.

What Rolegend does differently

• Keystone Engine enforces the rules server-side and is the only thing permitted to change a number. It rolls before any narration exists, so the result cannot be shaped by the sentence that needs it. ROWAN narrates the world and cannot roll again.
• Your sheet is structured state in a database, not text the model is asked to remember. Hit points, inventory, conditions and spell slots are canonical because nothing narrative can overwrite them.
• Coverage is published rather than implied: /rules-coverage lists every rule as enforced, partly enforced, or narrated, with the date it was last checked against the code.
• We implement the System Reference Document 5.1 under CC BY 4.0, with the attribution reproduced in full at /legal/attribution.
• Solo only. No shared tables and no invites. You can run a party of up to six characters, but every one of them is yours.
• No battle map and no grid, and tactical positioning - movement, cover, opportunity attacks, flanking - is not enforced.
• Async play-by-post. Write a turn, close the tab, and come back to a campaign that is exactly where you left it.

Pick AI Realm if

• You want to be playing in two minutes, on your phone, without reading anything first.
• You want other people at the table - a small group rather than a solo run.
• You care which model is doing the narration and want to change it whenever you like.
• You want to play cyberpunk, or a world out of a book you love, rather than fifth-edition fantasy.
• You want to be able to fix the Game Master when it gets something wrong, by editing the message or the sheet directly.
• You want the game read aloud to you.

Pick Rolegend if

• You want a die roll that the story cannot lean on, decided by code before a word of narration exists.
• You would rather not curate the AI's memory yourself. Structured state is kept for you, and it does not fall out of context.
• You want the rules that are enforced listed in advance, honestly, including the ones that are not.
• You play alone, in short bursts, and want the campaign intact weeks later.
• You do not need voice, a map, or a choice of model - you need the numbers to be true.
